Rediscovering the ‘travel bug’

Raise your hand if you miss traveling?

Yep, I feel you. This year has been one heck of a year and who would have thought that travel would be quite difficult. I suppose it’s something we even took for granted – get an idea of where to go, look up flights, book hotel, and bam! Off we go on our adventure. I had on my list that I would want to explore a new country in Europe this year and well, COVID-19 scuppered those plans like I’m sure it has done for many of you.

And it’s funny to the lengths people will go to get a similar experience. Singapore Airlines was offering a three-hour dining experience where people could pay up to $496 to eat on a plane that didn’t even move. Yes, you read that right…that much money for it to just stay parked, on the ground, at the same airport. And it got sold out within two hours. AND there’s a waiting list.

I don’t know about you, but flying isn’t my favourite part of traveling, so the thought of eating my meal in an economy seat…no thank you. But hey, each to their own.

Tough for the holidays

Like many of my friends, the upcoming holiday season is looking very different. Many aren’t going back home to visit family because of quarantine, closed borders, or financial reasons caused by the pandemic. It’s tough.

So what can we do?

I’m not sure about you, but I’m still going to plan my next trip. We really want to go and visit the United States, perhaps do a little road trip around the East Coast and head to Florida for some fun in the sun. Or maybe head to a country in South East Asia so that we can stop at some amazing food stalls for a snack. Manifest, manifest, manifest. If I believe it’s happening, it’s happening!

As I am writing this, I checked my Instagram and thanks to its algorithm, it showed me sponsored posts. And this travel journal popped up and I thought it could be fun (please note, I am not affiliated in any way). If we can’t go and travel, let’s go back in time and reminisce! It looks cool because it has blank pages for your photos, writings and drawings. It has maps, it has checklists and perhaps you could start planning your next adventure in it. Alternatively, a blank notebook could work too!

Crunch, crunch, crunch…ASMR

YouTube. It is amazing what you can find in YouTube. Do you miss eating panipuri in India, the crunch crunch crunch of it? Well, this guy has got you covered. Or perhaps Thai fried snacks? She has you covered. And if you really miss the sounds of flying, here’s 10 hours of airplane cabin white noise. You’re welcome. And I look forward to seeing your “down the rabbit hole” YouTube travel suggestions.

And looks like the hope of a vaccine has gotten many of us looking forward to our next travel.

So let me know, what are your travel plans? Where do you want to go and explore next or what tips do you have to help battle the travel bug? Let me know!

Or you could book a meal on an airplane. Totally up to you.
